A brief history of Honda
Honda was founded in Japan in 1948 by Soichiro Honda. The company's first product was a piston ring compressor. It was initially called Hondaya Seisakujo (Honda Technical Research Institute) and later renamed Honda Motor Company.
Honda started producing motorcycles in 1949, and by 1952 had produced over 200,000 bikes. In 1959 the company produced its first car, the small Super Cub. This led to its first sports car, the S500, which was launched in 1963.
In 1964 Honda opened its first overseas factory in Ohio, USA. By 1966 it was building over 100,000 cars a year at its Japanese plants alone and had become one of the largest exporters from Japan.
In 1969 Honda launched its first road bike, the CB450 twin-cylinder motorcycle, which set new standards for reliability and performance among European riders who could afford to buy one.
In 1985 Honda introduced its first Integra scooter which quickly became popular with young people around Europe because of its low price and easy handling characteristics. In 1988 it launched the Prelude sports car which became very popular among young drivers because it offered performance comparable to some hard-top cars.
