A brief history of BMW 

BMW was founded as Rapp-Motorenwerke, an aircraft engine manufacturer, in 1913 by Karl Rapp. BMW started building motorcycles, which were powered by their own engine designs. In 1928 BMW acquired the Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach and began production of the Dixi, a licensed copy of the Austin 7. 

In 1929 it formed a joint venture with British car firm Austin to produce a scaled-down version of their popular Austin Seven automobile. In 1933 BMW's production reached 10,000 units annually.

After the Second World War, BMW assumed full control of Eisenach and resumed motorcycle production and car production started in earnest. The popularity of BMW grew quickly both on the mainland and in the UK
