A brief history of Audi

Audi is a German automobile brand that produces luxury vehicles. It was founded in 1909 by August Horch, who was previously employed by Karl Benz's company, Mercedes-Benz. The first car produced by Audi was the Type A 10/19PS, which was released in 1910. This car used a four-cylinder engine and a wheelbase of 2,000 mm.

In 1932, Audi merged with DKW and Horch to form Auto Union AG. In the same year, Auto Union announced the release of its first fully functional car: the Type D. This car had an aerodynamic body design, which made it more fuel efficient than its predecessors.

After WWII ended in 1945, Audi started producing their first diesel-powered vehicle: the Type 4D 1/4 ton truck that used a two-stroke engine designed by Dr Walter Glöckler. He was also responsible for developing BMW's first diesel engine as well as many other important technical advances during his career at Audi's parent company Volkswagen.
